SUMMARY:DROP-IN DINNER: Ma Po Tofu & Ginger Choy by Len Senater
DESCRIPTION:Ma Po Tofu is one of my favourite sichuan dishes; spicy\, tangy & complex with a deeply satisfying combination of textures. It is a great example of an approach to cooking that uses meat (ground pork in this case) as a flavouring rather than the center of the dish. I also happen to make a vegan version that is so virtually identical in taste & texture that I have trouble telling the leftovers apart. \nServed with a side of steamed baby bok choy with ginger\, and white rice. $12 \n(Veg’n-friendly & gluten free) \nSoup\, salad & fresh cookies also available.

SUMMARY:SUPPER CLUB: Paella Night with José Arato of Pimentón
DESCRIPTION:Paella is the quintessential Spanish food of celebrations. Originating in Valencia\, but with countless regional variations\, this classic rice dish has five key ingredients: Spanish short-grain rice\, saffron\, Pimentón\, olive oil and a paella pan. José Arato\, owner and Head Chef of Pimentón\, has built and elegant Spanish meal around this signature dish. \n—–\nThe starter is a grilled vegetable salad called Escalivada. The name of this dish comes from the Catalan word escalivar\, meaning “to roast over ashes or embers\,” as it is traditional to cook the peppers\, eggplant\, zucchini\, etc. over a flame. The dish is then dressed with lots of garlic\, parsley\, lemon & olive oil. \nThe centerpiece of the meal will be the robust Chorizo & Chicken paellas. This non-traditional twist on paella features fresh chicken\, high quality\, locally-made Spanish chorizo & mixed vegetables over special short-grain rice cooked in a saffron-scented chicken stock. \nCrema Catalana is a Spanish dessert similar to creme brûlée\, but cooked on the stove instead of the oven. Crema catalana uses citrus peel and sometimes cinnamon to flavor the custard\, and the crisp sugar crust is traditionally caramelized using a special small round hot iron.\n—– \nJosé Arato\, owner and Head Chef at Pimentón\, a Toronto restaurant\, caterer and gourmet food store specializing in Spanish and Mediterranean fine food\, can be considered a true enthusiast of Spanish cuisine. Along with paella cooking classes\, Pimentón offers wine pairing classes that teach aspiring cooks how to drink alongside the delicious dishes they’ve made. \n$40 +HST\nReserve Now by Credit Card or PayPal

SUMMARY:DROP-IN DINNER: Xoco-Inspired Mexican Caldo
DESCRIPTION:Last year I visited Chicago for the first time\, and had the privilege to eat at Rick Bayless’ amazing restaurants for a taste of his immaculately prepared regional Mexican cuisine. Lesley and I were so blown away by the giant bowls of fragrant\, spicy soup (caldos) overflowing with fresh ingredients and colourful garnishes\, we ended up eating there 4 times in a week. I’d go back to Chicago just to eat there. \nInspired by the flavours\, textures and gorgeous visuals of Señor Bayless’ caldos\, I’m presenting my own mashup of Mexican flavours and ingredients to warm up a chilly January evening. \nTomato (the organic ones I canned myself!) & pasilla chili broth over chunks of chayote\, cob corn and poblanos\, topped with crispy tortilla strips\, avocado\, onion\, jalapeño\, radish\, cilantro\, arugua\, lime & optional crema. $11\n(veg’n-friendly & gluten-free)\n \nAdd chipotle-grilled chicken breast +$2 \nEXTRA LATIN FLAVOUR! Around 7pm there will be live music by the Max Metrault Trio\, featuring Max Metrault\, Larry Lewis and Marlow Bork playing boleros\, son and Mexican folk songs. Ole!
